The National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) has requested the Central Government to include Laptops, Routers, Smartphones, etc. in the list of essential commodities. The industry body told the government that things like laptops and routers are very important for people doing work from home. On April 20, from today, the e-commerce website has been given an exemption to sell essential items. NASSCOM has urged the government that by incorporating laptops, routers, electronic goods, etc. into essential items, people will be able to deliver these products at home during the lockdown.
New Order by Government that affect Smartphones Sales
On 19 April, the Ministry of Home Affairs had instructed the e-commerce companies to sell only essential items such as grocery items and begin selling non-essential items from May 3 onwards. NASSCOM has said in one of its tweets that most of us are working or learning from home. In such a situation, we need to have the necessary equipment. Nasscom is urging to government that basic requirements such as office chairs, routers, laptops or desktops, etc. be sold on e-commerce sites as essential items.
Debjani Ghosh, President of NASSCOM, wrote on his Twitter handle retweeting the order issued yesterday by the Central Government. We thought better than this, e-commerce companies had been planning to work since April 20 for the last few days. Many of these companies do not have enough funds to handle such a reverse decision. I think they should be focused on protecting essential safety protocols.

Following the new guidelines released by the government, e-commerce companies Amazon India, Paytm Mall, etc. have also given their responses. Amazon India has expressed hope that the situation may return to normal soon. The consumer will be disappointed after this U-turn of the government. Paytm Mall has also urged the government to further increase the list of essential commodities. Especially for those doing work from home. Laptops, routers, mobile phones, etc. are essential items for them.
We know the country is going through a very pivotal time. But we also need to lookup our eCommerce business too. Items like Smartphones, Laptops, Desktops, and Routers are very prominent for work from home and online classes. Our eCommerce companies are well equipped and suitable enough to handle this situation. So, we can add these items in the list of the essential items.
