Honor 9X Detailed Review and Specifications: Is Honor is back?

After a long time, Honor has released its new smartphone in India. This time Honor has come up with the pop-up mechanism smartphone in India. The new Honor 9X is the successor of Honor 8X and is the ballista by Honor in a mid-range bracket. The smartphone comes up with a well-accepted Full View design. So, let’s check out can Honor make their arrival in 2020

Display & Design

Honor 9X comes with a 6.5 inches Full View IPS display with a resolution of 2340 X 1080. The display gives a 91 % screen to body ratio with a pixel density of 390 which comes with a blue light filter. The display is vibrant and shares punchy colors. Outdoor performance is also good and you will not be going to find any problem including viewing angle.

In terms of design, Honor 9X carry pop up mechanism design which gives it a trendy appearance and premium sense. New X effect at back with gradient finish. Corporeally it comprises of polycarbonate back which reduces the chances of scratches and finger magnet. Overall in terms of display and design, the smartphone is really good and will plainly give you a satisfying experience.


Honor 9X powered by a Kirin 710F chipset having clock speed up to 2.2 GHz. The processor is built on 12 nm technology having octa-core architecture.  The chipset is coupled with a Mali G51 GPU. We are expecting Kirin 810 in Honor 9X and if they provide us 810 than the smartphone will crop up as an ambitious competitor in the mid-range bracket. Still, it is a good chipset, it can handle your daily tasks smoothly.

Coming to the gaming sphere, we try PUBG on this phone, so we play a game for approx 25 minutes and we didn’t find any major heating issues but there are some frame drops after playing continuous games. PUBG is running on HD settings at high fps. So, it can handle gaming but can expect some frame drops after 1-2 hour gaming. The smartphone is running on EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9. But Honor ensures about the update of Android 10.

Honor 9X comes with the triple rear camera setup. It has a 48 Megapixel primary lens of aperture f/1.8. The secondary is an 8 Megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens of aperture f/2.4. The third one is a 2 Megapixel depth sensor of aperture f/2.4. The camera layout is similar to other honor devices packed with many AI and other features. Device support super steady mode but only at 720p while without it you can go only up to 1080p @ 60fps. Also, it can shoot slow-motion video at 480 fps. Coming to the front-facing camera, it has a 16 Megapixel pop-up camera of aperture f/2.2 of 1-micron pixel size.

Honor 9X produces good pictures. The output seems to be natural but can color can be boost using AI mode. The edge detection for bokeh mode is up to the mark.

Battery & Other Features

The smartphone comes with a 4000 mAh battery and a basic 10W charger in a box. It has all the major fingerprint sensor including a physical rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. The device supports Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi 802.11.

Honor's 2019 was very harsh. So, this year we are expecting some good devices from Honor. As Honor 9X is Honor's first smartphone in 2020, it comes with a pop-up mechanism and has a direct competition with Realme X. But if you avert the pop-up camera, then it is not a perfect package in 2020. We have other better options from Redmi and Realme are available in the market. Therefore, I do not urge you to buy it because we have better options on the market.
